Jedi: Survivor. What went wrong?
Star Wars Jedi: Survivor – An absolute, unfinished mess!
The game was released on April 28, and it quickly became clear that this should’ve not happened. Only three days have passed, and the Internet is already flooded with negative reviews. I decided to investigate the situation.
Let the hate flow through you.
What’s not working? It turns out that Survivor has many problems. The biggest: huge framerate drops when playing on PC. Compared to the console versions, the framerate is inconsistent, irregular, and not up to any standard you may expect from the game that costs so much money. The game fails in other aspects as well: bugs, crashes, glitches, bad-looking textures, and dialogues that were sometimes cut off, began to overlap with each other, or simply crammed into one place. Right now there is no way to improve the performance by adjusting the in-game settings, so if you’re playing on PC, well… You should stop.
EA replied with a promise of a day-one patch that would fix bugs and improve performance. Personally, I find it hilarious considering that the last few years showed that this is some kind of a trend among companies: release a game that shouldn’t have been released yet, collect the big money for it, and promise patches for the annoyed players that will fix the game for the next year.
What’s next?
Of course, you can try to enjoy a game that has a great story to tell, but we all know that’s not the point. Once again, we have received a game that is not finished, and because of this, many of us have lost money (EA did not mention refunds), trust, and patience. At the moment the game is not in an acceptable state, but updates are on the way. However, it may take a few days before they are deployed.
On the first of May, EA released a promised patch that was supposed to improve the quality of the game and fix some bugs. The first patch offers performance improvements for non-raytraced rendering. Unfortunately, it appears that the game looks even worse because of it.
We have posted the official announcement from EA below. This is good news for players, but there is still a long way to go before Star Wars Jedi: Survivor will be what the game was meant to be from the start.
